Contemporary art specialists Philippe Ségalot and Judd Tully reunite to share their remarkable journeys through the challenging and exciting world of international art. Ségalot, the French art advisor, ran the contemporary art department at Christie's from 1996 to 2001. He later became a private dealer with a global portfolio of acquisitions, ranging from Yves Klein to Andy Warhol. American art critic and journalist Judd Tully has shared his award-winning commentary for the likes of The Washington Post, The Robb Report, Flash Art magazine, BBC Radio and CNN. He’s also chairman of the Reuben Kadish Art Foundation. Together, the longtime colleagues weigh in on everything from their Art Basel visits to their favorite contemporary artists of all time.

EPISODE V: ART with Judd Tully and Philippe Ségalot

On What Got Them Interested in Art

Ségalot: "As a young kid, I was very excited whenever I saw the auction catalog arrive. I would open it and go through the pages. That's when I told myself I would become an art collector."

On A Shocking Moment In Their Careers

Tully: "As a journalist covering the art market, a big thing was the impact of some of these record-breaking prices and publicity headlines. Pieces like a Jeff Koons sculpture or Maurizio Cattelan's work enlivened the art market and created more interest, and 'Oh my God, it really sold for that much!'"

On How The Art World Has Changed

Ségalot: "Before my time, Christie's would host a Sunday brunch before any auction. It was very formal, very conservative. We changed that to fun parties on Saturday nights. I threw a party for Jeff Koons, and we called it the Pink Party. Everyone was dressed in pink, and I wore a pink tail like the pink panther."

On The Future of Art:

Ségalot: "If you ask me today who I believe is going to be the best artist in the next generation, it would be impossible for me to answer because I don't understand today's art as well as I did with the art of my generation. That's how it should be: passing it to the next generation of dealers and curators to discover and promote the next generations."
