The Caribbean island of St. Barths, stretching just 11 miles long, has attracted visitors for years with its paradisiacal beauty and refined luxury. For Nicky Zimmermann, the Australian designer and co-founder of Zimmermann, this French Caribbean gem has become a cherished retreat. With dozens of pristine beaches, a vibrant culinary scene, rich cultural heritage, and sophisticated shopping boutiques, St. Barths is the ideal destination year round. Having recently unveiled her brand's first boutique on Rue du Bord de Mer in the capital city, Gustavia, Zimmermann now divides her time between Australia and what she considers her personal paradise. Sharing her intimate knowledge of the island's most treasured spots, we now know where she goes for great local shopping, a piece of culture, and a fun night out.

My favorite hotel is: Eden Rock, it’s an iconic address on the island or Hotel Le Toiny for a more private and intimate experience.

A special beach I love is: Le Toiny Beach Club, it makes you feel like you’re in a private oasis.

The best place to get a bite to eat is: Bonito St Barths, you can get a quick seafood snack on their counter with a view of Gustavia Harbour.

When I want a refreshing smoothie or a perfect cup of coffee, I go to: Kaz A Juice has great smoothies, and for coffee I would also recommend La Petite Colombe with one of their freshly baked pastries.

The best cocktail bar for a night with friends is: Shellona, perfect for enjoying a cocktail while watching the waves.

My favorite spots to go shopping are: Gustavia is the best place to find everything you might need. I love Baya St Barths for decor and La Case for local groceries.

When I want to unwind, I go to: Ligne is the perfect place for a relaxing spa treatment.

The best restaurant for a special dinner is: The gardens of Tamarin for French-Caribbean fusion food.

My favorite thing about the new Zimmermann boutique in St Barths is: The Swedish Kurbit. It’s a folk art inspired curtain made in collaboration with our creative team.

When I want something local I go to: Pharmacie de Gustavia has a great selection of French beauty creams and elixirs. It’s my go-to on the island.

My must-have items when I'm in St Barths are: First, flat sandals: They are elegant and versatile. Wherever I go, I'm on the lookout for a new pair. Then, skincare: I am obsessed with cosmetics, I always carry mini sizes with me. Last, a big sunhat: The best ally for any sunny escape. They're chic and will protect your skin.

When I want to feel cultured, I go to: Galerie Asie is a great spot that specializes in Asian art and antique pieces. Galerie Nathalie Obadia is another of our favorites that focuses on modern and contemporary artworks by prominent international and French artists.

My favorite place to go hiking is: The Grand Fond natural pools. The spectacular nature is definitely worth the 30-minute hike.

A perfect day at the beach looks like: Nothing beats a morning swim followed by a long walk. Then lunch and drinks with friends with a view of the ocean.

The best spot to watch the sunset is: Pointe Milou is one of the best panoramic views of the island. The sun sets directly into the ocean and it’s not a crowded spot.
